Farming from the beginning of time focuses on one main issue - "good yield". With the advancement of technology available to the gardeners, hi-tech and high yield production fertilizers- based on chemical compounds marched their way into our farmlands. With a loud cry - "We will Feed the World", cheap but chemical based fertilizers were introduced.

During the times of our forefathers, they do have that common and well known practice of composting- that is to make the soil fertile based on organic waste that are still abundant. With advancement of research into composting, we were able to prove that the idea of organic composting can be at par with its proven and reliable chemical based fertilizers. As a gardener, we try to weight the differences between these two practices that pursue the same objective- that is to have a good yield.

Chemical Fertilizers are promoted to the consumers as safe and it really does have the proper plant nutrients which are phosphorous, potassium and nitrogen. As a gardener, we do even have a choice of the powder, stick or the liquid form. It is practical and safe as long as we follow the manufacturers recommended instructions. We do however should look at the major impact on what it is doing to our environment. From the hazardous production of the chemical fertilizers to the degrading after effects in the soil and water, we should consider the environment that our children will inherit. These chemicals literally burns the soil.

Composting needs a lot of work as one has to segregate the organic wastes, mix them with other natural elements and wait for it to be decomposed before these can be introduced to the land. We do however help ourselves as our wastes are re-used. Kitchen wastes such as left over food, newspapers, and vegetable or fruit peelings are piled with the garden cuttings, leaves and grasses.

Yes, we have to work on the compost bins or holes but that is an exercise in our part. We will be helping those earthworms that are cultivating the soil. These worms and germs die when we use the chemical fertilizers. We may have to wait for six months to a year for our organic wastes to be used and ready. If we will introduce organic composting in our garden routine, we will have an abundant harvest. Yes, we save on our fertilizer budget too.

Children can have fun working in a garden where organic composts are used as a food nutrients. It is safe for them, safe for us and for those friendly insects like the butterflies that we want to pollinate our flowered plants. When chemicals are introduced in the garden- we may have to work with rubber gloves and boots, yes sometimes with even that dreadful chemical mask. Our beautiful garden is not laboratory. And for those people who can afford, compost soils are available in the garden section of the market. As for me and my family, we will live with the land and pray that our children will continue to do so.

A good vegetable garden need a fertile and loam soil. This will enable the vegetable to grow healthy. A perfect garden soil is seldom available outdoors and the best way to naturally re-create the growing environment is to use organic compost. Even the perfect garden soil needs compost to consistently replenish the nutrients of the soil.

Organic compost loosens the soil. It also aerates the soil that the plant needs in order to grow healthy. The organic materials in the compost will also enable the soil to absorb the water and nutrients better. Roots need moist earth. The organic materials attract micro-organisms, worms and beneficial fungi to will improve the development of the plants.

Before introducing the organic materials into the garden, it must be decomposed. When dry, these organic materials does not stench. They are normally colored brown and have an earthly smell. It is practical that non commercial grade compost shall be added to the garden soil at least 1 week before you start planting the vegetables.

The best organic compost that can be mixed with the garden soil is animal manure. Ensure that they are completely dried and loose. Dried chicken manure is among the popular compost used as well as those from cattle. Organic kitchen wastes can also be used as composts. It is better if they were broken down, dried and kept in a proper compost bin for sometime before they are introduced to the soil. Old Saw dusts too are good compost but they rob nitrogen from the soil as they decompose. Grounded charcoals from the fire places are also good compost material. They add nutrients to the soil and protect the plants from insects.

The compost must be mixed well in the soil. A good shovel and a garden fork can be used to distribute evenly the organic materials in to the soil

Organic compost will keep the garden soil rich with nutrients. Vegetables love to grow on soils enriched with organic composts.

Gardening- The Importance of Water Conservation

Protected by Copyscape Plagiarism Detection

Water is a precious commodity. Whether we live in a place with abundant water, we have to conserve water. Electrical power normally runs the pumps and motors that distribute the water to the gardens. By conserving water, we too save on electricity.

As a gardener, we must make it a habit to conserve water. Our objective is to show some of the simple elements that we can practice to conserve water for our gardens. We too must always consider that plants need water to grow. In order to have a good yield in the garden, we must make sure that the plants will have sufficient water to process the nutrients for its growth.

One of the important habits that must be practiced by the home and garden owners is timing when to water. The purpose of watering the garden is to make sure the earth is moist. Plants take most of the water from the soil as a source for nutrients. When watering your garden in a hot condition, most of the water evaporates. When the garden is watered in the morning, the water is retained by the soil and slowly absorbed by the plants. Scheduled morning watering will enable the soil to absorb the water deeper and this will help the roots grow deeper into the soil.

The type of soil in your garden or lawn must also be considered. Clayish soil would normally absorb the water in the upper level and then the water will drain out, away from the roots. With proper watering timing interval, the water will be able to go deeper.

Investing in a drip irrigation system will allow you to conserve a lot of water. These will allow you to control the water intake of the plant and water is directed specifically to the root. It will be able save time and effort in watering the plant. The drip irrigation is ideal to water the young trees and shrubs. Drippers need not be expensive. There are a number of simple and practical water drippers that be made at home. An empty soda bottle can be used as a dripper as long as the water drips are controlled.

Applying organic mulch to the top layer of the soil will enable the soil to keep a cooler temperature. This will prevent the water from evaporating fast and consistent soil moisture can be attained. Mulching will also prevent soil erosion.

Frequent and timely cultivation of the top soil of the plant will enable the water to immediately penetrate the roots. Consistent weeding will enable your plant absorb more of the soil moisture as the water competitions are removed. A good soil drain on the fruit trees and shrubs will allow water to be collected on top of the roots. This will also prevent the precious soil nutrients from eroding.

Drought resistant plants can also be considered to be planted in the gardens. These plants have adapted to minimal watering.

Saving rain water to be used in the garden is also a good practice. Collected water from the drain spout or gutters are stored in containers and then used to water the plants.

Gardening- The Basics of Soil Preparation

After selecting the location of your vegetable garden, soil preparation is the next stage before you start planting. Vegetable plants require certain soil types in order that they will have a better yield. The properties of a good garden soil are deep, fertile, loose and well-drained. As much as possible it has plenty of good organic matter that is already decayed. As these properties are seldom available, this must be replicated in your garden.

The preparation of the soil is normally done at least one week before you plant or transplant the vegetables. Start your preparation when the soil is dryer. Preparing the ground when it is too wet will only compact the soil. The objective is to create a loosed ground for the vegetables to grow.

Garden soil preparation starts with digging the earth in order to loosen them. A good spade or a hoe is recommended to be used for small backyard gardens. Weeds, fresh roots and other debris must be removed as this will grow eventually and compete with your vegetables. A good rake can easily separate the unwanted materials from the ground. This preparatory work is vital to the plant as the plant will grow healthier if the roots will not be inhibited from getting nutrients. The roots of the plant need a soft and loose environment in order to develop fast. It is recommended that vegetable gardens will be at least eight inches deep. Root crops such as carrots, potatoes or beets needs deeper loosed soil.

Adding compost into the soil at this stage is highly recommended. Organic composts will improve the structure of the ground. It will also increase the water capacity of the soil and inhibit aeration. Oxygen is needed by the roots to properly function. “Choked” roots often die and rot underground. Organic compost can be purchased in bags in most garden shop and better still, make your own compost. Very rotten and dried animal manure specifically from grain or green eater is also recommended. Good animal manure for the garden does not have any bad odor. These will act as the natural fertilizer of the plant. All of these must thoroughly mixed with the soil.

Black Jack Basics

Protected by Copyscape Plagiarism Detection

Black Jack is one of the most popular games in a casino and even in an online casino. It is also called 21. It is normally played with a banker as the dealer with up to 7 players independently playing against the banker. The dealer normally uses from 4 to 8 deck cards shuffled in a “shoe” which the dealer distributes.

The numeric cards 2 to 9 are counted as their values, the Ace is optionally counted as eleven or one. All the face cards (Jack, Queen and King) has a value of ten. The objective is to have a better card value against the banker without having the hand total above 21. Once it goes over 21, it is called a “bust” and the player “fold” or losses.

The game starts with each player placing a bet of their choice and the dealer gives 2 cards for each player and the banker. One of the cards of the banker will face down and the other will opened. When the initial 2 card hand of any one totals 21- it is a black jack and it is immediately a winner. When a player gets a black jack, all the others will continue to play but when a banker gets a black jack, the hand is over and the dealer collects all the bets.

Each player will have a turn to collect additional cards as they would determine. The only rule is that as soon as the card is “busted” the player’s turn stops and the next player will be given the opportunity. The objective is to have a total hand of 21 or less in order to have a chance of winning. After receiving the first 2 cards, the players will have the following options while it is their turn to play:
- Hit- to ask for an additional card. A player can “hit” as much card as they require as long as the hand total does not go over 21.
- Stand- to take no more cards.
- Double Down- this option is applicable only while the player has 2 cards. It will allow the player to double the initial bet but will be allowed only one more card to take.
- Split- this option is applicable if the first 2 cards of the player are the same. When a player declares split, the two cards are separated and a second bet that is equal to the first bet is added to the original bet. The player will now be considered as playing with 2 hands.

The banker will be dealt last if there are still players who have not gone above the 21 card value. If the dealer’s card value is 16 or below, another card must given. When the dealer’s hand is more than 21 all the players that is still playing wins. The banker cannot have an additional card once the card value is 17 of more.

The winner determined based on each player and banker’s hand value. An equal card value means a “push” and the player’s bet is returned.Protected by Copyscape Plagiarism Detection
